This frame was originally developed for test-riding components, so we required a frameset neutral in ride-character (geometry, stiffness, etc.); a frame that is modern in characteristic without being too extreme in any aspect (i.e. comfort vs. stiffness).
An analogy to audiophile-equipment would be the "studio-monitor" type speaker, which produces clear, accurate audio tones without any extra-processing of the sound that comes out (for example, no Mega-Bass).
With this standardized (hence "Reference") frameset for our test riders, we can more accurately detect differences when test-riding OCTTO components, without the frame 'coloring' the sensations.
These frames turned out to be so nice to ride, that we felt compelled to share then with other OCTTO-philes.
